As a lot of other islands of the Mediterranean, Minorca has also been object of continuous invasions and colonizations: Phoenician, Carthaginian, Greek, Romans, Vandals, Byzantine, Visigothic, Moors, English, French and Spanish.
To the Cardinal Richelieu, craftsman of the 1756 French invasion, was served a sauce called mahonésa, created during his stay on the island from a French cook that had drawn inspiration from the local salty alioli. Minorca has so exported all over the world the mayonnaise!
